Fact or Fiction?

#6 – Final!

During the witch hysteria, men and women were stripped nude and all body hair shaved as part of the witch’s interrogation process.

FACT

It was understood that either the devil’s mark or a ‘teat’ used to suckle familiars, marred the flesh of witches and warlocks. To find this mark or teat, the accused would be stripped bare – by a midwife, the magistrate, a mob – and all body hair would be shaved with a knife so every speck of their person could be thoroughly examined. The discovery of such an anomaly – usually in some secret spot upon their bodies – indicated dalliance with the devil himself. And thus proved their guilt.

In the case of female prisoners having their bodies examined by men, Stripping the Witchwhich was not uncommon, it was understood that these men were of a most pious nature. Because of this piousness, they would be quite able to see and to touch, with deliberate and vulgar intimacy, the naked body of a woman without fear or concern for their own immoral arousal. And, of course, a man so pious he can subdue desire while examining an unmarked naked woman, could also examine the flesh of one so touched by the beast with nary a twitch in his breeches. If, however, despite his piousness, he were to find himself aroused as he examined the body of this female prisoner, then that too would be proof of her guilt, for such depravity could only be the result of a spell cast by a witch upon her examiner.

So… they were too pious to become aroused by the sight of a naked woman, but if these dirty little men found themselves unaroused during their examination of a naked woman, that proved her guilt. Yet… if these men were to become aroused during the examination of that naked woman, then that, too, proved her guilt.

Blind immoral justice.

Immoral Virtue.
